Kicking Off HUBFest Weekend
A little rain didn’t stop HUBFest 2026 from bringing bikes, learning, safety and community to Tecumseh on August 21-22.
After we got an early start on the weekend with a pre-ride of the 16-mile Kiwanis Trail Adventure route to give riders a chance to preview one of the HUBFest routes ahead of Saturday’s event, HUBFest returned this year with fresh energy and a focus on making bike events welcoming and approachable. Riders could choose from Classic Gravel (40-60 miles), Tecumseh Tarmac (40-60 miles), and Kiwanis Trail Adventure (16 miles) routes, while the activities surrounding the rides gave participants, volunteers and community members plenty of ways to be part of the day. Each route had been thoughtfully curated with local cyclists to showcase their favorite places to ride around Tecumseh.
Riding Was Just the Beginning
HUBFest was built around fun, curiosity and community rather than competition, giving riders an opportunity to explore the Tecumseh area while also learning more about bicycling and connecting with others.
After the rides, the day continued at Cal Zorn Park, where the community could join the fun whether they had ridden that morning or not. Fat Axe Food Truck served up post-ride eats, and local musicians Bluesdad, Dean Richardson, J. Washburn, Michael Snyder-Barker and Ted Montei provided live music while folks explored and enjoyed Waymo’s self-driving car as well as free helmet fittings and giveaways, all part of a welcoming hub for riders of all experience levels.
That open, community-focused atmosphere is an important part of HUBFest. Riding a route is one way to participate, but volunteering, stopping by the festivities, learning something new or simply spending time with Michigan’s bicycling community are all part of the experience.
Putting Safety Into Action with Waymo
Safety and education were also at the center of this year’s event, thanks in large part to HUBFest 2026 presenting sponsor Waymo and their commitment to safety.
Leading up to the event, Waymo helped give riders an extra reason to register by providing free MET MIPS helmets to qualifying Classic Gravel and Tecumseh Tarmac registrants.
At HUBFest, the Waymo team continued that commitment with free bike helmet fittings, safety gear and opportunities to learn more about safely sharing the road. Attendees could also get an up-close look at one of Waymo’s self-driving cars and talk with the team throughout the day.
The partnership helped bring HUBFest’s focus on safety and education to life in a practical way, giving people resources they can continue using long after the event.

Events like HUBFest take plenty of people working together behind the scenes and throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes to the riders, volunteers, vendors, community partners, staff and everyone who came out and joined us in Tecumseh. Even when the rain arrived, the good mood stuck around.
