Founded in 1981, the League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) is Michigan’s statewide voice for bicycling. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We work to make bicycling safer and more accessible for everyone in the state.
Our Mission
We unify Michigan’s cycling community into one voice. We advocate for safer roads and better access for every cyclist. We educate road and trail users on their rights and responsibilities. Together, that’s how we make Michigan bicycling better.
Our Strategy
LMB’s work rests on three pillars:
Unify. We bring Michigan’s cycling community together. Riders, clubs, shops, and advocates too often work in isolation. LMB gives that community one voice at the State Capitol and beyond.
Advocate. We push for safer roads and better access for every cyclist. That means working with lawmakers, agencies, and local governments on policy that protects riders.
Educate. We teach road and trail users their rights and responsibilities. Safer roads start with everyone — drivers and cyclists alike — understanding how to share them.
Our Vision
We’re working toward a Michigan with strong protections for vulnerable road users. We want state law that keeps cyclists safe. We want drivers and cyclists who both know the rules for sharing the road.
We’re working to protect e-bike access under Michigan law. E-bikes belong in the same class as bicycles. Higher-powered devices, like e-motos and electric motorcycles, do not, and blurring that line puts real cyclists at risk.
We’re working toward a connected statewide network of trails and bike lanes. That network should link cities, small towns, and the outdoors. Every rider should be able to get somewhere worth going.
We’re working toward a cycling community with real power at the State Capitol. That means shaping policy, not just responding to it.
Getting there takes work already underway: stronger vulnerable road user protections, clear legal distinctions between e-bikes and higher-powered devices, driver and law enforcement education, funding for trail and infrastructure projects, and partnerships that open cycling to more people, regardless of income, ability, or background.
