Volunteer Opportunities
Are you looking for something valuable and rewarding to do with your time? LMB has plenty of opportunities for you. Volunteers are vital to the success and continued growth of our many education and advocacy efforts. You can help us fulfill our mission of unifying, educating and advocating for safer cycling in Michigan!
Volunteer opportunities include assisting on one of LMB hosted events, serving on an LMB committee, serving as an LMB Board Member, assisting LMB with an information table at an event, helping to build and mail information packets on bicycling, contacting legislators and government officials, being in a list of statewide volunteers we deploy to events that support LMB across the state, and assisting with special projects from time to time.

Below are the descriptions for the roles available please read these before signing up.
LMB General Volunteer
What this means:
You’re open to helping wherever needed across LMB programs and events.
How you may be involved:
You could be contacted for a variety of opportunities including events, outreach, logistics, or special projects.
Good fit if:
You’re flexible and just want to get involved.
Set Up / Tear Down Volunteer
What this means:
You help physically prepare event spaces before participants arrive and break them down afterward.
Typical tasks:
Setting up tents, signage, tables, barriers, and assisting with post-event cleanup and packing.
Good fit if:
You’re comfortable with hands-on work and can lift, move, and organize equipment.
Check-In Volunteer
What this means:
You help welcome participants and manage the registration/check-in process at events.
Typical tasks:
Greeting riders, checking registrations, distributing materials, and answering basic questions.
Good fit if:
You’re organized, friendly, and comfortable interacting with participants.
Aid Station Volunteer
What this means:
You support riders during events by staffing rest stops along the route.
Typical tasks:
Distributing food and water, monitoring supplies, and helping create a positive and encouraging environment.
Good fit if:
You enjoy supporting others and being part of the rider experience.
Corner / Road Marshal Volunteer (Certification Required)
What this means:
You assist with rider safety by helping guide participants and manage traffic at key points along a route.
Typical tasks:
Directing riders, communicating route information, and helping ensure safe passage through intersections or turns.
Requirements:
Training and certification via LMB training is required before serving in this role.
Good fit if:
You’re attentive, confident, and interested in supporting safe event operations.
Medical / First Aid Volunteer
What this means:
You provide basic medical support and respond to minor injuries or health concerns during events.
Typical tasks:
Offering first aid, assessing situations, and coordinating with emergency services if needed.
Requirements:
Relevant medical or first aid training (CPR, First Aid, EMT, etc.).
Good fit if:
You have medical training and are comfortable responding in event environments
Statewide Support Volunteer (External Event Support)
What this means:
You’re interested in being part of a list of volunteers that may be shared with partner organizations across Michigan who are hosting bicycle-related events.
How you may be involved:
Your information may be provided to non-LMB event organizers who are looking for experienced or willing volunteers to support their events.
Typical ways you might help:
Event setup, registration, course support, aid stations, or general event assistance—depending on the needs of the hosting organization.
Important to know:
- The events we align folks with events that give funds and support back to the LMB for your help, which in turn helps drive our mission and work
- Participation is always optional—you can choose which opportunities to accept
- Event details, expectations, and coordination will be managed by the hosting organization
- Some roles may require additional training or experience depending on the event
Good fit if:
You’re comfortable being contacted by organizations beyond LMB and want to support bicycling events and communities across the state.
