As her time on LMB’s staff comes to a close, we’re sending a big thank-you to Joanie Towarnicky for her contributions to bicycle and pedestrian safety across Michigan!

Joanie first joined LMB through the Michigan Healthy Climate Corps before continuing with us as Data Analyst. In that role, she helped lead research into bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement, examining crash data, traffic citations, and court outcomes to identify opportunities for improving safety efforts. Her work culminated in a comprehensive report evaluating years of enforcement activity across Michigan and offering recommendations for future improvements.

Beyond the data, Joanie has been a dedicated advocate and familiar face at community events, sharing bicycle safety resources and helping riders stay safe and visible. Her passion for safer, more connected communities also extends to her advocacy work with Friends of the Grand Blanc Grid which she founded.

Thank you, Joanie, for the time, care, and dedication you’ve brought to LMB and Michigan’s bicycling community. We appreciate all you’ve contributed and wish you the very best in what’s ahead!
