Last month, LMB’s Gina Apone and Anu Jawanda had the incredible opportunity to attend the League of American Bicyclists’ National Bike Summit in Washington, DC, where they immersed themselves in a week filled with inspiration, education, and advocacy.

From engaging keynote speakers to enlightening breakout sessions, they delved into topics crucial to advancing cycling initiatives nationwide. Throughout the summit, Gina and Anu gained valuable insights into strengthening relationships with policymakers, learned about the pivotal Active Transportation Infrastructure & Investment Program (ATIIP) from Shailen Bhatt, Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, and heard from Veronica O. Davis, author of Inclusive Transportation, on how our community can mobilize to create change for better biking. On Lobby Day, they took their voices to Capitol Hill, advocating for safer roads, connected bike networks, and enhanced bike education for kids. The summit was not only about discussions and presentations but also about experiencing the joy of cycling firsthand. Gina and Anu explored the streets of DC on bike rides led by the Capital Concierge, including a memorable sunrise ride around the Tidal Basin during peak cherry blossom season. As the summit concluded, they left inspired by the stories of adventure and transformation shared by keynote speaker, Eric Cedeño, the Bicycling Nomad, reminding them of the profound impact biking can have on individuals and communities alike.

Keynote speaker, Eric Cedeño, aka the Bicycling Nomad, shares his story.
