For more than three decades, the League of Michigan Bicyclists has brought people together through our signature events — long-distance tours, weekend adventures, and skills clinics that helped shape countless summers and sparked lifelong friendships. These rides have meant the world to us, and to the thousands of cyclists who joined us year after year. That history is real, and we honor it. And now, we’re ready for what’s next.
We’re shifting our approach to events in 2026.
After a year of reflection, community conversations, and a deep dive into how LMB can best serve Michigan’s cyclists, we’ve made a big and exciting decision:
In 2026, LMB will pause our traditional multi-day tours and large-scale ride events — including MUP, Shoreline, Sunrise, and MMBA skills clinics. Instead, we’re taking our energy, expertise, and people power in a new direction: supporting, amplifying, and showing up for those that already make Michigan’s cycling culture so strong. This means building partnerships with organizations that promote and operate quality cycling events around the state. LMB will also focus on hosting select education-focused programs designed to support safer riding, stronger advocacy, and community learning across Michigan. Details on those offerings are below.
This is not a step back.
This is a step outward — toward more communities, more riders, and more impact.
Why the change?
The world of events has shifted. So have rider interests, costs, volunteer capacity, and what it takes to operate large tours. Rather than pouring enormous resources into a small number of LMB-run tours, we see a bigger opportunity and responsibility ahead:
We can make a greater impact by empowering the events that are deeply embedded in Michigan’s cycling DNA.
By pivoting our model, LMB will be able to:
- Be more visible and involved at races, rides and tours, festivals, bikepacking weekends, and community events statewide.
- Bring advocacy and safety education directly to where people already ride.
- Support organizers, clubs, and partners who make Michigan’s cycling scene thrive.
- Strengthen our core mission: safer roads, better trails, and a stronger voice for all cyclists.
What’s not changing?
Everything that makes LMB…LMB.
We’re still here.
Still UNIFYING the cycling community.
Still ADVOCATING.
Still EDUCATING.
Still striving for safer, more accessible biking across Michigan.
Still building community.
Still deeply committed to connecting people through the joy of riding.
LMB will still host a select number of our own events in 2026, with a renewed focus on education, safety, and celebrating the people and progress shaping Michigan’s cycling future. These events will highlight cycling law, policy, and best practices and spotlight the communities, advocates, and supporters helping move the needle statewide.
The first two LMB-hosted events on the 2026 calendar will be:
HUBFEST: HUB Fest is a family-friendly, single-day event designed to demystify the world of bike racing and bike events in general— no pressure, no podiums required. You’ll learn how race environments work, how to get involved as a rider, spectator, or better yet, a volunteer, and how to feel confident showing up to your first event.
LEAF PILE PEDAL: Leaf Pile Pedal is a lightly supported weekend bikepacking experience focused on teaching riders how to travel by bike, build confidence in their setup, and create their own adventure.
Registration details:
Registration, dates, pricing, and other details for Hubfest and Leaf Pile Pedal will open first to LMB members at noon on January 31, along with additional event information. General registration will open to the public at noon on February 2, stay tuned!
What you’ll see from us in 2026
A lot more “LMB in the wild.” We can’t be everywhere, but we will be more visible.
You’ll find us at gravel races, group rides, trail events, and community celebrations, not just behind a registration table, but doing what we do best:
- amplifying local organizers
- celebrating Michigan’s riders
- delivering on-the-ground safety and education resources
- strengthening relationships across the state
- championing the issues that matter most to cyclists
This shift allows us to be where cyclists already are, not just where we host them.
To everyone who has ridden an LMB tour:
Thank you — deeply.
Your miles, your stories, your friendships, your joy on the road… they’ve shaped who we are today and who we’re becoming next. Without you on the ride across the years, LMB would not be what LMB is today.
The course is changing, but the ride will continue.
We’re excited for this new direction and we can’t wait to ride with you.
If you have questions, thoughts, or event partnerships you want to explore, we’d love to talk. Reach out anytime to [email protected].
Here’s to new routes explored, new collaborations made, and a stronger cycling community — together.
