We’re so pleased to welcome Joanie Towarnicky to the League of Michigan Bicyclists!
Joanie is a MI Healthy Climate Corps member working with LMB. She has an extensive background in business and volunteering including Habitat for Humanity, Flint Community School Board and tutoring for a GED program. Joanie is a founder and President of Friends of the Grand Blanc Grid. For the past 5 years she has worked to develop community engagement and build non-mototorized capacity in Grand Blanc. She looks forward to bringing this knowledge to the League of Michigan Bicyclists. Joanie believes feeling good is at the core being the best version of yourself. She believes a clean environment and a safe bicycling community enable people to be their best selves.
Joanie started bicycling as a kid around the neighborhood and to school, including the annual 4th of July bike parade. Joanie went on to compete in several triathlons but now bikes mainly for transportation and recreation to run errands and exercise. She still rides to her girls’ school and hosts a 4th of July bike parade.
Throughout her time with the MI Healthy Climate Corps, Joanie will learn about safe transportation planning practices and put them into action. She’ll conduct bike audits using an AARP toolkit to give local leaders the data, solutions and strategies needed for transformative change. If you’re interested in learning more, get in touch with her at [email protected].
