In July, LMB Board Member Beth Brandvain participated in the third annual Ride For Equity, a 377 mile ride from Detroit to Mackinac. The ride serves as a fundraiser and awareness project for Black Leaders Detroit (BLD) and took place during the week leading up to The Mackinac Policy Conference. Beth had been looking forward to a fun week and was really excited about the opportunity to meet new people and to learn along the way as well as to ride with her friends David Contorer (Hebrew Free Loan), Dr.Richard Keiden (Detroit2Nepal) and Dwan Dandridge (BLD).
The Ride for Equity brings wide awareness and dollars to address the lack of access to capital for Black business owners in the City of Detroit. BLD provides 0% interest loans to qualifying Detroit Black business owners and entrepreneurs and grants to Black-led charitable organizations that are making grassroots impact in Detroit. BLD has distributed over $1.5 million to Black Entrepreneurs in Detroit and their goal is to have 1 million people donate $1 a week.
Black Leaders Detroit shares a mission with Hebrew Free Loan Detroit (HFL) of which Beth is a proud board member, and other great charitable organizations like Detroit2Nepal Foundation. Together, they work to enhance friendships and synergies between our region’s Black and Jewish community members. BLD welcomes anyone that believes in fairness to join them.
