Fellow LMB Board members thanked Jim Carpenter for his service on the board with a cake in April 2019.
As part of our efforts to live out our values, the League of Michigan Bicyclists is planning to expand our board from 12 up to as many as 15 members. We anticipate filling three to five openings in the upcoming board election. We are committed to reflecting the vibrant diversity of our members and of the Michigan bicycling community, in line with our vision for making life better through bicycling. We invite candidates to consider how they will help advance the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work of LMB.
Are you enthusiastic about bicycling in Michigan and ready to commit to a service role on the LMB board? Can you share this opportunity with someone who would be eager to contribute their voice and perspective? Please learn more about our board, and let us learn more about you! We need to hear from you by March 25 if you’re interested.
As a statewide organization, LMB advocates for better bicycling at the state level and in communities across Michigan. Our mission is to improve life through bicycling. Our vision:
“We envision a state where bicycling makes life better for everyone; serves as an everyday option for more people to commute, get around and have fun on roads and trails; and connects us to the natural world and each other.
Our communities benefit through healthier people and stronger economies. Our transportation system becomes more equitable and environmentally sustainable. Our streets and trails are safe and accessible to people of every age, race, gender, ability, and economic status.”
We have a long-range plan to pursue this vision.
As a board member, you will help guide the direction and operation of LMB, including its finances and policies. You are also a liaison between LMB and the community you represent. LMB seeks to have a diverse representation on its Board including race, gender, age, geographic area of Michigan, type of bicycling interest, professional experience, and more. The specific expectations of Board Members include the following:
- Support the work of LMB to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive cycling community in Michigan and to stand against racism, sexism, ageism, and other forms of oppression
- Serve as a connection between LMB and the bicycle community in their region
- Serve on at least one of the committees of the Board
- Participate in the fundraising efforts of LMB which may include personal contributions, promoting fundraising campaigns, securing financial contributions from donors, and other activities
- Be a current LMB member
- Participate in at least three (3) board meetings annually
