The League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) is turning the page to an exciting new chapter with the appointment of Andy Rohrer as our new Executive Director (ED).
When longtime Executive Director John Lindenmayer stepped down last year, LMB’s Education Director, Jeff Carek, stepped up as Interim ED and guided the organization during the search process. We are grateful for Jeff’s work and equally grateful to you, our supporters, for standing with us through this season of change. Your support has and continues to keep LMB strong and focused through this time of transition.
Now, with Andy at the helm, we’re ready to accelerate into the future. A Michigan native, Andy grew up in the Grand Rapids Metro area and Jackson. He returned home in July 2025 to West Michigan with his family after completing 26 years of service in the U.S. Army. Andy brings extensive experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning and implementation, and policy development — his last position was serving as a defense policy advisor supporting the US Ambassador to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. He brings a proven ability to lead teams, build consensus, and turn big-picture vision into meaningful action.
Most importantly, Andy is a lifelong cyclist who sees cycling as a “core part of his identity.” He learned to ride a bike before he was three years old. Though the frequency and volume of riding has waxed and waned over the years, he has always ridden a bike. While living in the Washington, D.C., metro area, he became a committed bike commuter, maintaining an almost unbroken streak of nearly 10 years only commuting on two human powered wheels in all weather. When he and the family made the move to Europe in 2017, they became a one car family, and he took advantage of the robust cycling infrastructure found in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, logging thousands of kms every year in addition to riding to work, usually “taking the long way.”
For him, this role is mission-driven, not just employment: “the job is the reward.” His passion for bicycling and belief in its power to connect people and transform communities are part of what make him such a natural fit for LMB. Returning to Michigan with his family and their cats, he’s eager to give back to the cycling community and apply what he has learned about cycling for transport, recreation, and sport to make Michigan bicycling better. Andy is eager to help us write the next great chapter in LMB’s story.
We’re excited to welcome Andy and look forward to what’s ahead as we continue building a safer, stronger, and more bicycle-friendly state. Andy wants to hear from you — he welcomes your input and is always up for a bike ride in your community to experience Michigan cycling through your perspective. If you’d like to reach out with questions, ideas, or just to say hello, you can connect with him at [email protected]. Together, we’re creating a future where everyone can share the joy of cycling. Ride on, Michigan!
