Legislative Update: E-bikes

After a great response to our e-bike demonstration at Lucinda Means Advocacy Day, we have recently learned that the following legislation has been introduced:

HB 4781
Introduced by Representative Holly Hughes on 6/20/2017; referred to Committee on Tourism and Outdoor Recreation. Allows for use of electric bicycles on certain trails. Amends 1994 PA 451 by amending section 72105 (MCL 324.72105) as amended by 2014 PA 212.

HB 4782
Introduced by Representative Holly Hughes 6/20/2017; referred to Committee on Tourism and Outdoor Recreation. Amends the Michigan Vehicle Code to provide definition and regulation of electric bicycles. Amends 1949 PA 300 by amending sections 32b, 33 and 657 (MCL 257.32b, 257.33 and 257.657) as amended by 2012 PA 424, 2015 PA 127 and 2015 PA 126 and by adding sections 13e and 662a.

HB 4783
Introduced by Representative Klint Kesto on 6/20/2017; referred to Committee on Tourism and Outdoor Recreation. Exempts electric-assist bicycles from no-fault requirements. Amends 1956 PA 218 by amending section 31-1 (MCL 500.3101) as amended by 2016 PA 346.
