The MSU Bike Jamboree is a day of celebrating biking in various fun and engaging ways on Earth Day 2023. It’s just one of many other events happening on this special day on campus.
Watch this page for more updates on this and other MSU partner events (MSU Sustainability Office, MSU Surplus & Recycling, MSU Student Life & Engagement’s Sustainability Office, Residential Initiative on the Study of the Environment (RISE), and others.
This FREE event will feature a mix of both active and stationary biking fun in the space outside the MSU Bikes Service Center through the grassy area and the parking lot to the west of our shop/ Bessey Hall in the center of the Michigan State University campus. There will be a a guided tour aka a “Tour de MSU” around campus to other Earth Day activities happening at other sites and you’ll also get to see the “Bike Friendly” facilities that helped MSU earn a gold “Bike Friendly University” award from the League of American Bicyclists in 2020.
There will be demo rides on a wide type of bikes that you might not ordinarily have the chance to ride from a number of different vendors; bike skills learning sessions for riders of all ages; go-slow races that anyone can win (last person to put a foot down wins!); a challenging obstacle course and bike commuter challenge.
If you’d like to participate in any of the biking activities you’ll need to pre-register and complete this short waiver form:

*Helmets are not legally required but recommended. An assortment of loaner helmets will be available, but not enough to guarantee everyone has one who wants one, so best to bring your own. MSU Bikes will have the shop open and have more helmets for sale.

After dark we’ll have a 90 min. bike movie fest curated by Filmed by Bike (out of Portland, OR) outside the MSU Bikes Svc. Ctr. (or in the Bessey Hall Auditorium if it’s raining).
We’ll then wrap up the event with a bike light parade around campus and near campus!
Individuals as well as shops are invited to reserve space for a table or 2 to offer up stuff for sale for no charge! Use this form to register your space:

* Please provide your own table(s), chairs and canopies. No tents that require staking into the ground please. If you need electricity pls. provide your own power generator. Restrooms will be available in the MSU Bikes Service Center and Bessey Hall.
* The parking lot behind Bessey Hall will be used for our demo rides, safety skills classes, go-slow races, etc. so please don’t park in that lot; being a Saturday please park inside the ramp right next to Bessey. If you have a truck/ van that’s too tall for the ramp there should be plenty of parking elsewhere around Bessey.
This is a free event for you to participate in and for people to attend and hope you’re as excited as we are to do this!
***********************
IF WE GET RAINED OUT the Bike Movie Fest will STILL happen in the Bessey Hall Auditorium after dark, or about 8:30 pm, so please count on coming for that even if the event is ruined by bad weather.
