Join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph/20kph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.
WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION EXIST?
- To HONOR those who have been injured or killed
- To RAISE AWARENESS that we are here
- To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD
THE RIDE OF SILENCE WILL NOT BE QUIET
The Greater Lansing Ride of Silence is proud to be hosting its 14th annual event. It will again be hosted by the TCBA Advocacy Committee & MSU Bikes joining 400+ events annually world-wide that honors and memorializes bicyclists hit and killed or injured by motor vehicles on roadways.
Unless otherwise announced, attendees will once again gather at the Wells Hall courtyard (east side of Wells Hall) no later than 6:00 pm for important instructions and to sign-in, etc. Come earlier to be sure you’ve signed the waiver, tied on arm-bands (black, if you know someone who was hit and killed; red, if you or someone you know was hit and injured). Participants will then roll off at 6:30 pm sharp.
The start time is being bumped earlier again this year to ensure a safer return to campus in more light. Police escorts (bike patrol officers) will accompany the group through the route to help maintain safety and guide us through intersections along the route. This is our planned route.
We plan to again have an after-party at the Lansing Brewing Co. (518 E Shiawassee St, Lansing, MI 48912) will commence at approx. 8 pm after our gathering at the State Capital to celebrate the lives of our fallen fellow cyclists and to support and encourage the TCBA Advocacy Committee and others in the area who are working towards safer streets for bicyclists.
HELMETS REQUIRED! (a limited supply of free helmets courtesy of Sparrow Hospital’s Brain Trauma unit will be available)
Lights and bright clothing highly recommended for ride home. We will ride in the rain, but our thunderstorm date is Saturday, May 22nd, 10 am at the same starting point. The route and other details will also be the same.
Our Facebook event page for 2021 is here.
Please invite your friends!
Stay tuned to our web site and our Facebook group for updates and more details as the date nears.
