PHOTOS FROM THE MICHIGAN RECUMBENT RALLY - WEST
RIDERS get ready to start the approximately 22-mile ride that was part of the Michigan Recumbent Rally - West Sept. 11. The rally took place at Tyden Park in Hastings, the home of WizWheelz, which hosted the rally.

OVER THE BRIDGE riders go on the start of their ride from Tyden Park. The rally also was a gathering for owners of WizWheelz recumbent tricycles, so several participated.
PEOPLE ATTENDING the Michigan Recumbent Rally - West had the opportunity to test ride WizWheelz’ four models, including its new carbon fiber Edge. This photo of the Edge was taken at the WizWheelz shop following the rally. It sells for about $3,500 (reasonable for carbon fiber) and weighs only about 27 pounds. The latest version of WizWheelz standard steel frame model, the 3.6 debuts November 2004 and will sell for only $1,799. More information on all four WizWheels models (steel, aluminum and carbon fiber solo trikes and steel-frame tandem) is available at www.wizwheelz.com.
HERE’S the bare Edge carbon fiber frame. The carbon fiber tubes are epoxied into or around machined aluminum lugs. The lug that holds the axle arms, bottom bracket boom tube and the two main frame tubes is shown below. To start, only 100 Edges are being made, not enough to justify the cost of having molds made for die casting of the lugs, so instead they were CNC (computer numerical control)-machined by another Hastings company.
