CherriesThe 7-day Shoreline West Bicycle Tour takes the scenic route from Montague to the mighty Mackinac Bridge in Mackinaw City. There is so much to experience on this ride: view historic lighthouses, pristine orchards, world famous cherries, wineries, farms, swim at sugar sand beaches, climb the dunes, grab a fresh lunch and picnic along the route in "Michigan's playground" and ride through the Tunnel of Trees. The terrain is never mundane as it varies from flats, rolling hills, and many challenging climbs. With moderate mileage, this is a great bicycling vacation to either ride with someone you know or someone you meet on tour. Choose from our 3 or 7-day tours. No you do not have to pay anything extra for breakfast and dinner...just know that your registration fee is partly going back to the communities we visit. Yes, we will have Gaterade at the SAG stops. We typically have some light snacks such as crackers and cookies. No power bars.

Quoting Rose:
In the FAQ it says, "Local organizations are providing meals as a means of raising funds." Does that mean we have to pay for breakfast and dinner or is it included in the price of our registration fee? Will Gatorade or some other form of power drink and water be available each morning to fill our water bottles? Are power bars provided?

Betsy,

Our SAGs are reserved for emergencies only. We manage our tours with the expectation that our riders are able to bicycle the the full length each day. As excerpted from our Rider Information PDF above:

SAG's "will transport bikes to the repair shop or bring injured/sick bicyclists back to the next night’s stop. If you need to be transported more than 2 times, you will be requested to make alternative travel plans."

As you stated, it is not a race, so the hills typically are not an issue as long as you use your gears and have pre trained for the event.

And yes, we have still space available.

Quoting Betsy Walton:
It's now Apr 12-- How many spaces still available. I'd need one for me, a 3-day rider tho I'm trying tro convince a friend or two to come along. The 3 day ride has the steeper climbs. I am not a very strong climber, is there the option of riding in a sag vehicle if I just can't get up, even walking (tho I expect I can since it is not a race!). I'm probably going to use Bubba's services

Quoting Betsy Steel-Walton:
As of March 27, how many riders are registered? I'm very interested in the 3-day tour. I live out of state, leaning towards flying in to and out of Detroit. Can you help me someone who might be interested in renting car to get to and from Detroit airport? I have friends whom I will visit before the tour begins on Thur.

Merc,

Yes, the Shoreline West Tour typically fills up. Our max is 500. We don't fill up over night, however as do some other tours. As of 1/25 we have 43 registered riders.

+1 #5 2010-01-23 15:02
Does this ride usually max out for registering? What are your numbers thus far for 2010?

0 #4 John Lindenmayer 2010-01-11 14:54
Don,

I see you made your post before we updated the site. All of your questions should now be answered above on this page. Max # of riders is 500. We typically fill that and do so in a first come first serve basis. Make sure to click the "Rider Information" button above for answers to most questions. If you don't find your answer there, feel free to call the LMB office at 1-888-642-4537.

Kathy,

3 day riders can indeed sign up for a bus option ($57) that will take them back to Traverse City.

3 day ride include ride back to Traverse City?

+1 #1 2009-12-15 18:49
I have a few questions regarding the Shoreline West ride 8/7-14. Is there a maximum number of riders? If so, how many is that and do you usually max out? Are the riders selected based on who registers first or lottery system etc?

What the costs for the ride and what does that include?

Thanks,

Don
